Central Hall Westminster has announced that it will host the Closing Ceremony of the One Young World Summit 2019, an annual four-day event which aims to identify, promote and connect the world’s most impactful leaders to create a better world, with more responsible, more effective leadership. The Summit, taking place in London from 22 to 25th October, convenes the brightest young talent from every country and sector, working to accelerate social impact.
Delegates attending from over 190 countries are counselled by influential political, business and humanitarian leaders which have included the Duchess of Sussex, Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and world-leading businessman Paul Polman.
High profile Counsellors attending the event this year include singer and activist, Sir Bob Geldof; former Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon; leading businessman, Sir Richard Branson; Co-Founder of Twitter, Biz Stone; singer, Ellie Goulding; Channel Four presenter and journalist, Jon Snow and Danny Sriskandarajah, Chief Executive of Oxfam GB, among many others.
The 2,000+ Delegates participate in four transformative days of speeches, panels, networking and workshops with all attendees given the opportunity to apply to deliver keynote speeches and share a platform with world leaders. Delegates also have the chance to interact with and challenge world leaders and be mentored by influencers.
Five main themes in the Plenary Sessions of the event include climate change, media freedom, poverty alleviation, the future of learning and how to build peace in a polarised world.
The spectacular Closing Ceremony, to be held in Central Hall’s imposing and historic Great Hall on 25th October, will include a ceremonial handover of the One Young World Baton from the Lord Mayor of London to the Mayor of Munich, where next year’s event will be held, to the accompaniment of a 17-piece German band. Keynote speeches will be carried out by Paul Polman, the Chair of One Young World Global Advisory Board, followed by a symbolic ribbon tying where delegates write down their pledge to action. The ceremony culminates in an ariel performance act.
